The Genesis reading is a strange one in our modern ears, about the giving of daughters as chattel in marriage arrangements but it is also about God working good anywhere and everywhere and in the least likely places in the life of the people of God and of our own lives.  Jacob gets some comeuppance as well as he suffers the same type of deception that he played upon his brother Esau earlier in the story.

The epistle is Romans 8 and is a beautiful reminder that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ..."nothing in all of creation" or outside of it!

Today’s Gospel from Matthew 13 is more parables... what is the kingdom of heaven like?  Teeny tiny mustard seeds, or leaven? But aren't these things like an infection?... why yes they are, and with them God instructs the world with the wisdom hidden from the human mind from the foundation of the earth.
