Pastor Matthew’s reflection on his video chat for the 10th Sunday in Pentecost 2020:
I focused mostly on the Gospel this Sunday, The story of Peter on the water. How familial are those words, "O ye of little faith”? I wonder how you or I would have fared out there in the storm with the waves towering over us and the sea threatening to swallow us? Would we have lost our nerve? Would we have doubted our safety even though Jesus had promised we would remain safe?
I'm fascinated by the idea of sustaining the courage that Peter has just as he steps out onto the water, full of trust, gleeful at the wonder of doing something seemingly impossible. How do we hang onto that trust, that confidence, that belief in what our Lord is doing for us, in us, because of us?
